Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas from the Pierces!

Family pictures are rough with so many kids so this is the best we could do! This is the night that Santa comes to my parents' house to visit all 50 Larkins that come to celebrate. It's a great time! Unfortunately Mary would not go near Santa until he was walking out the door, when she decided a high five was appropriate. So, we have no pictures of Mary and Santa but Luke didn't seem too bothered by Santa.

Mary and Luke had a great time with their cousins, Kate, Will and Hudson! Mary loved playing with all of the big kids and following them around as if she was as big as them. The kids all loved baby Luke!

This picture completely captures Mary's feelings for Will... she was obsessed with him! She would yell his name all day long and be SO excited every time she saw him. Of the three cousins, he was the least interested in her.... of course.

Don't mind Luke's crossed eyes... he's only three weeks old. :)

For some reason Mary was NOT into this picture with the cousins... as you can see from the first picture. But, we had a little talk and I told her she could sit by baby Luke and she was a little more compliant. The second picture is right after Papa made his cow sound... which she obviously gets very excited about... every time he does it!

off to Florida

We're off to Florida this morning... and we can't wait to get there! Mary has been there for the past four days (my mom took her down with her when she left) and we have missed her. We're so excited to see her again... and get to the 70 degree weather! Mary has had a wonderful time at Mimi and Papa's-- thank you so much, mom and dad! I think she really misses "her baby" though. She has been wonderful with him so far, caring for him and playing with him. As you can see below, the dress up days have already begun.

Yes, that is a big necklace around his neck!

at the hospital

We are now home with our little guy and having a fun time being a family of four. But, here are a few pictures from the hospital. Mimi and Mary with Luke... Mary has continued to kiss Luke about every 5 minutes. She is really into him!

Grandma (Danny's mom) with baby Luke.

Here is Mary and one of her best friends, Lily. Lily, her mom and dad came to visit us. Mary and Lily were all over the place.... they both brought their "babies" and got blankets from the nurses so they could be swaddled like baby Luke. Here they are in the chair eating ice... and kissing.

Headed home.

And, lastly, here is an upclose picture of his cute little face. He has been wonderful these first four days of his life. He seems to be a content little guy, which I'm hoping stays throughout his baby-hood. :)

Luke Has Arrived!

Well, Luke Daniel has finally made his appearance, at 2:02pm today (December 2, 6 days after his due date). Lisa's contractions actually started early Tuesday morning, so we're grateful he is finally here. One major prayer request was that Lisa would have a successful VBAC, and the Lord was gracious to us!

Luke weighed in at a hefty 9lbs 2oz, and measures 20-3/4 inches long. Here is the very first picture taken of him, a few minutes after his birth.

The three of us after a long couple days.

Here is our first family picture! Mary was excited to see the baby- but she has absolutely no idea this baby is about to join her at home. Still, it was cute to see her kiss him (and poke his eye).

About an hour ago, Luke started sucking his thumb and hooking his nose with his index finger. Super cute.

I'm really proud of Lisa, who did such an amazing job through what turned out to be a very difficult couple days. We are both so thankful to the Lord, who has now blessed us with two wonderful, healthy children. The Lord is good.

not 4 days old...

The icon to the right says that Luke is 4 days old... which is not true! In fact, here he is... just getting bigger by the day inside my womb. way to go, Luke! Can't wait to meet you!

And, here is Mary being cute outside. It's been a little cold these days so our outside play time consisted of us walking up and down the driveway and then going back inside. We're looking forward to FL for Christmas more this year than ever.

just waiting...

Luke was due yesterday. Like I said before, I had no anticipation of him actually arriving on time. So Mary is just lounging around, waiting for baby brother. Yeah, this is how we caught her sleeping a few nights ago.

This actually has been a really fun and special time for us as a family. Mary has been extra fun; she is getting quite the little personality and often thinks she's really funny. Though I can't wait to meet Luke and welcome him into our family, I have really enjoyed this time of not working and getting some good, fun time with Mary... and the holiday has allowed Danny to be home with us, which is an extra treat! So, no I am not dying to get him out of me... I will probably feel that way in about a week, but for not my discomfort is bearable and I'm enjoying this restful time. It also helps that Danny is doing about everything around the house and caring for Mary (he's always helpful, but he's especially helpful now)... I mean, why would I want anything to change?!? :)

My big belly is under Mary... it isn't hidden very easily these days, but here she's doing a great job!

How Much Will Luke Weigh? A New Poll

Okay, so our last poll has run its course. 50% of the voters felt Luke will come more than 3 days late, 33% within the 3 days after his due date and 16% voted for more than 3 days early.

But now we'll vote on Luke's birthweight. Here are the options:
  • Less than 8 lbs.
  • Between 8-8.5 lbs (8 lbs 8 oz)
  • Between 8.5-9 lbs
  • Over 9 lbs
In case you're wondering, Mary was 8 lbs 13 oz. Danny was 9 lbs 13 oz (!) way back when he was born, and Lisa was 8 lbs 1 oz. Of course, Luke's birthdate will factor into this, since it's not like he'll be losing weight at this point. I won't tell you what Lisa's midwife guessed, but she did say: "well... you're not having a peanut!" So take a minute and vote! If you have a specific guess, feel free to leave a comment.

Aquariam Pics

These pictures are from a visit to the Mystic Aquariam at the beginning of October, so they're a little old. Mary and Ryan enjoyed their time together. Unfortunately, Danny didn't take very many pictures, so this is about all we have.

Ryan seemed to have more fun than Mary did, especially since she couldn't understand why she wasn't allowed in the water to play with the animals. I think she thought it was one big bathtub!

When Will Luke Arrive? Vote!

As you can see from Lisa's post yesterday, we are getting closer to Luke's world debut. The due date is November 26, the day after Thanksgiving. So we're taking a vote to see what people think; the poll is in the upper right. The options are:

  • More than 3 days early
  • Within 3 days before Nov 26
  • Nov 26
  • Within 3 days after Nov 26
  • More than 3 days late

In case you're wondering, Mary was 8 days late. Let us know what you think, and if you have a specific date to guess, leave a comment. Thanks!

getting closer...

We are just 15 days away from Luke's projected arrival.... and here's the belly.

Personally, I am betting that I'll have him on December 1st (5 days late) but would be happy to meet him earlier. Not yet though... I don't feel quite ready! I'm not sure why I don't feel ready... maybe because I haven't washed all of his clothes yet, or maybe because I can't remember what to do with a newborn, or maybe because I LOVE that Mary sleeps until 9am most days and I get a glorious, peaceful morning... and I know that is all about to change. Whatever the reason, I know that God will give me all that I need when Luke comes. And when Luke arrives
we will be overjoyed that God has blessed us and entrusted us with another one of His children. We have a great God!

Seeing pictures of Mary as a tiny makes me all the more excited to have another tiny!

Mary's Funny Run

We've tried many times to catch this funny little run Mary does on video. She usually stops as soon as she sees the camera. Lisa, however, was able to catch a bit of it yesterday on her fancy phone. It's short, but you'll get the idea.

Head, Shoulders, Point and Point

I suppose it's no surprise that "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes" is one of Mary's favorite songs, sung in this video by "Music Dog" (creative name, I know). You can check out Mary's skills (albeit, very slow skills) below. In case you're wondering, the thing that she does with her arm is copied from me. I just kind of point toward my knees and toes when we sing this song, rather than bending all the way down to touch them. She picked it up and does the same. Lesson learned: laziness is contagious.

apple picking!

Note: since Lisa first posted this we've added a video at the bottom. Enjoy.

Some of the apples were tough to pull so Mary had to use her great strength! This is her struggling face. :)

She LOVED picking the apples (it was like she won the lottery every time she got one off the tree) and she also loved eating them. Good times, all around!

make way for ducklings...

In Boston's Public Garden there is a little tribute to the children's book, Make Way for Ducklings. Mary doesn't really know the book (we have it but it isn't a board book... we stay away from real paper pages these days)... but she loved the ducks.

really?!?

Today when I was packing our toiletries I looked down and saw this! I couldn't believe she knew what to do with the deodorant. Not sure when and how she learned this because I don't recall doing this in front of her that often... she's usually still asleep when I'm getting ready. It's almost scary to think of what else she could be learning. My big girl!
